    i saw this comment on tiktok that was like "they don't write 200k+ fics anymore these days. i miss the 2010s fandom so much" and like i get what they mean but also i just. did they- did they forget how much time it takes to write not only 200,000+ words but 200,000+ words that make a story??? that is entertaining??? and that a big chunk of fic writers do these massive masterpieces in their free time???

    also a sort of counterpoint to the whole sub-idea that word length automatically makes something great, which it truly can but the point i'm having here is: have you read a one shot fic of about 10k words or less that absolutely gut you from inside out and you constantly think about for days, months, years onwards? because i have. so many times.

    • #yeah speaking as someone who’s written a 200k word fic sometimes the short ones are the ones that wreck you #i still think abt The Pursuit (a Mother 3 fic from like ten years ago) all the fucking time #frankly I think about some of my own oneshots more than my big fic #though I loved writing the big one #but it’s a lotta fuckin work. i was writing a chapter a week and it still took me 5 months #but if you’re working at a more reasonable pace god knows it could take years even #tis a labor of love but it IS labor
